Research
Currently, my research is still a work in progress, but I will continue working on it as long as I can. There are so many aspects and unexplored datasets in the project that I will be busy for a while. However, so far, I have been able to create and collect visuals that are a starting point in understanding the data. Based on what final results are determined, the data will be published and we will have a better understanding of the role aerosols play in the atmospheric water cycle and what that means in terms of past and current climate systems and changes.
Personal
This project has been immensely beneficial in understanding what professional research implies and has given me the chance to look into a corner of the field that I’m studying. I have been able to conclude that I would like to continue in climate sciences specifically and I plan on applying for graduate schools. My goal is to receive a PhD in climate sciences and be able to help our environment, our future, and be a voice for those that are most affected and are overlooked. If I had more time and fewer classes, I would have invested more time and focus on my research and delved deeper into this topic.
Peers
My advice to other undergraduates starting in research is to remember that this is not a class but an experience where you are supposed to explore and learn if this topic interests you. It is okay if you find out that that question or area is not what you like. Then you can find another project that will align with your passion. :)
